Premier sound « étranger » à avoir remporté le trophée du World Clash sur le terrain des yardies, le sound system Mighty Crown de Yokohama a su se faire une place dans l’univers impitoyable des sounds internationaux.
Surnommés " the Far East Rulers", Mighty Crown est devenu au fil des ans le sound emblématique du Japon, allant concurrencer les plus gros sounds jamaïcains dans les compétitions internationales. Originaires de Yokohama, Mighty Crown est fondé en 1991 mais devient rapidement international quand deux de ses membres, Masta Simon et Sami-T, s'installent à Brooklyn en 92 et s'immergent dans le milieu.
Il devient champion au Japon en 1998 et rentre véritablement dans l'histoire du reggae en remportant le World Clash à Brooklyn en 1999 pour leur première participation, battant le légendaire sound system Killamanjaro.
